Become a confident Speaker

Image
(Peace, 2014)  In order to make people understand and ultimately motivate them to take action in their lives, you must reach out to them in a positive way and the only way to do so is to be an effective speaker. When you are a confident speaker, people will sit down and give you their undivided attention. A lot of people may have great motivational ideas and thoughts but are not sure how to express them properly because they are not comfortable speaking to a group of people. Being able to voice yourself is vital to storytelling because you must have the ability to speak your mind in a friendly, motivational, and powerful way. Here are a few tips that will help you become a confident speaker: 1 .    Prepare. You must prepare in order to know what you will be talking about. You need to know who you are speaking to and why you are speaking to them. For example, if you are speaking to a younger crowd you might change up your speech to a more basic and univer...

How To Give Good Advice

Image
(Got Credit, 2015)                                    When you are trying to give advice to someone you must put yourself in their shoes and then share your thoughts. It is really easy to judge without thinking about the other person’s situation. However, there might be something that that person is doing which you completely disagree with, but there are ways of showing what you agree and disagree with in a friendly and informative tone. When giving advice that you think will hurt the other person or will go against their beliefs, perhaps share a story to help lighten the mood. The person listening to you will respect the fact that you are not rude and arrogant in expressing yourself but rather careful and lighthearted in regards to what you say. When you share a story it shows your point of view in a very light way, and that is a great way to give advice. When you share personal exper...

Giving Examples Help People Understand

Image
(Teamtix, 2016) Ever had an idea or point that you were trying to come across but didn’t have the right words to express yourself? We have all been there, and that's why examples are a tool we like to use when it is hard to explain something. We use examples in everything. Teachers use examples in their lessons (Math, Science, English). We use examples in our day to day language when having a normal conversation. We use examples as a way of storytelling. Examples are another way of giving your idea the extra push or support it needs. For example (no pun intended) if you are at a job interview and you say you are a very organized person, you wouldn’t just stop there. You would give an example showing why and how you are organized. Giving examples engages your people skills. It helps you become a people person because giving examples is a part of normal conversation. Knowing when to use the right example is important as well. Just like with storytelling, if you give an ex...

How To Tell a Great Story

Image
Story telling is a very good skill to have. Sometimes when you do not have the right words to express your thoughts, storytelling allows you to illustrate your point in a fun and lighthearted way. This is a great tool to have because it captivates the other person, however not everyone is graced with this talent. Here are some tips that help you become a great story teller: 1. Get in the habit of jotting down ideas that will help you make a complete/great story in the future.  (Roots and Routes, 2013) This is an easy way to remember important facts about the story, so other people can learn the best way. If you remember all of the details, this will be the most effective way for a person to tell this story correctly to another person. You do not want a broken telephone effect.  2. Match your ideas with the right story.  This will achieve an underlying message in the background of the story and will make the story more interesting. This will help ...

How Stories Help People Understand Or Take Action

Image
(Croom, 2015) Stories are great to use when people do not understand a concept easily. They are especially nice to use when someone is facing a problem or issue and the only way to help them out is to tell them a story that is closely related to their situation. Telling a story is almost like giving an example and letting them know that they are not alone, and other people have faced a problem like theirs as well. This helps them take action because stories provide a certain type of motivation that gets the job done. A lot of stories are told as cautionary tales, where it warns the other person to stay away from something or someone specific. Many stories are anecdotal and are told from their own experience. These stories and experiences are not always accurate because they are personal experiences and the odds of it ever occurring again are slim, but sometimes people are able to relate to those stories. Stories help express feelings because no one knows if there is ...
