Become a confident Speaker

(Peace, 2014)

In order to make people understand and ultimately motivate them to take action in their lives, you must reach out to them in a positive way and the only way to do so is to be an effective speaker.
When you are a confident speaker, people will sit down and give you their undivided attention. A lot of people may have great motivational ideas and thoughts but are not sure how to express them properly because they are not comfortable speaking to a group of people. Being able to voice yourself is vital to storytelling because you must have the ability to speak your mind in a friendly, motivational, and powerful way.

Here are a few tips that will help you become a confident speaker:

1.   Prepare.
You must prepare in order to know what you will be talking about. You need to know who you are speaking to and why you are speaking to them. For example, if you are speaking to a younger crowd you might change up your speech to a more basic and universal way- in order for every child to understand. As opposed to speaking to college students. It is very important to have all of your information ready with you so you will know what to say and when to say it. If you are under prepared it looks like you don’t care and no one will really listen to what you have to say. Being prepared is a great start to speaking confidently.

2.   Practice.
If you practice what you’re going to be saying then you will know what to cut out and what to keep out of your speech. If you are trying to a tell a story, you should make it sound fun and intriguing by changing up the volume in your voice as opposed to having one monotone level. If you practice with someone, this will help you face criticism and will ultimately get better with every try.

3.   Perform
When you are trying to become a confident speaker, the best way to face your fear is to actually face them. When you perform in front of people, or tell a story to someone with all the practice you have been revising, you will probably feel good about yourself. It will make you feel good about yourself because you probably thought you weren’t able to do it. Trust me, with every performance or opportunity presented, you will get better.
